BBL Conventional
Introduction
BBL – BroadBand Light is one of the most effective light treatments for skin conditions such as pigmentation, freckles, photoaging, broken vessels, unsightly surface small veins and blemishes.
How Does It Work?
The light energy delivered by BBL gently heats the upper layers of the skin.
The heat absorbed by the targeted areas then regenerates skin cells, revealing younger-looking skin. Fine blood vessels that cause redness are eliminated, pigmented, aged and sun spots are lightened, skin feels smoother, pores are less noticeable, and uneven tone and texture are improved. BBL is non-invasive and non-ablative, with minimal discomfort and low downtime. Results can be seen from the first treatment. However, a series of treatments will yield the best results.
What skin types does BBL treat?
BBL is a gentle, non-invasive treatment targeting:
- Sun damaged skin
- Age spots
- Freckles
- Acne
- Redness, broken capillaries

Frequently Asked Questions
How many treatments do you need to have the optimal results?
Your provider will personalize a treatment plan. Multiple sessions are performed every 4-6 weeks until the desired result has been achieved. Usually, 3 to 5 treatments are required for full correction, although additional treatments may be required, especially for rosacea and vascular sun damage.
How comfortable is the treatment?
Each flash of the light produces a feeling of warmth. Most patients easily tolerate the feeling without needing any anaesthetic numbing cream.
What is the process and how much downtime is there?
Immediately following treatment, you can expect to see redness, and it may feel like a slight sunburn in the treated area. Depending on the aggressiveness of your treatment, you may have swelling for a day or two. Pigmentation will turn darker and will slough off in 7-14 days. You may have bruising with vascular treatments.
What area can be treated with BBL?
The commonest area to be treated is on the face. Other areas that can be treated are the neck, chest, arms, legs, and back of the hand.
Pre-treatment Precautions
- Avoid sun exposure/tanning beds four weeks before treatment. Use sunscreen and physical sun protection.
- Inform your doctor of any medical conditions or medications you are taking that might sensitize you to light, affect wound healing or affect coagulation.
- Discontinue one week before treatment: Long-term oral antibiotics, Retin-A or Renova, and topical acne medications.
- If you have cold sores, there is a risk that this treatment could contribute to a recurrence. Prophylactic antiviral therapy can be started two days before treatment and continued one week after to avoid an outbreak.
- No Accutane for one year. It can impair the skin’s ability to heal after treatments or surgery for an extended time, even after you have stopped taking it.
Can I combine multiple laser treatments with BBL?
Although BBL is a very effective treatment, it can be combined with other laser treatments for the perfect skin care regimen.
Providers often combine BBL HERO and MOXI laser treatments or BBL HERO and HALO laser treatments for superior skin results. Your provider will choose the combination treatment appropriate for your skin concern.
